North to the Numbers

The North to the Numbers (N2N) is a collective effort to create a mechanism for sharing information and connecting resources that support a healthy, culturally responsive, and collaborative ecosystem of support services for youth in North Portland to East Portland ("The Numbers"). This collaborative, rooted in the history of African Americans in Portland, is designed for long-term sustainability. Prioritizing African American youth, the collaborative ensures that available resources for education, healing, safety, and advancement, are readily accessible for youth and parents/guardians.

North to the Numbers (N2N) Advocacy/Advisory Youth Council (AAYC).

AAYC is an exciting new city-wide youth leadership program dedicated to addressing the critical issues facing our Black community. This paid Youth Council position will work with 10-15 peers and several nonprofit leaders from our N2N collective to examine the issues caused by gentrification, displacement in the Albina area, and years of systemic underinvestment in Black communities in Oregon.

The AAYC will collaborate with a select group of Black-led organizations that have come together to establish a robust and supportive ecosystem for Black-identified youth and their families in the Greater Portland area.

AAYC will be an affirming and empowering space where youth will learn principles of leadership, public speaking techniques, event planning, and participate in civic engagement opportunities as they connect with peers and mentors from across the city. They will do this while being immersed in and celebrating their Black culture, and develop essential leadership skills to thrive and effect change in our community by utilizing multimedia, hosting town halls, and collecting/analyzing data gathered by N2N partners.
